Fall Creek Oregon
East of Eugene, Oregon
October 2006
Only thirty miles east of Eugene, the Fall Creek drainage holds some
of the closest stands of old growth trees to town.  Massive Douglas Fir
tower over the stream, Big Leaf Maple are draped in moss, and
Cedars grow to unimaginable size.  The woods are constantly damp
with ferns and moss carpeting the forest floor and growing on trees as
well.  This is an amazing and surreal place to visit.  On this trip we were
lucky to see several families of river otters playing in the creek.
There I am checking out a fair sized Douglas Fir.   This tree is probably about
seven feet in diameter.
Sunlight reaching into the depth of the forest along Fall Creek causing water
to evaporate from the wet trees.
A Big Leafed Maple draped in what must be hundreds of pounds of moss.

A nice new footbridge makes accessing the big trees simple.
