Overview
During the summer of 2005 I was offered the chance to help guide a trip down
the Little Whale River in the southern reaches of Quebec's Ungava Peninsula.
Several of my friends had paddled this seldom traveled river ten years earlier
and their descriptions of huge rapids, canyons, and massive waterfalls were
tantalizing. I quickly signed on to the expedition and was amazed by what I saw
on this river. The magnitude of the Little Whale is hard to describe. Paddling
through a paradise of open spruce forest at the edge of treeline was fantastic
and the scenery some of the most impressive I have ever seen. With access
and egress via dramatic bush plane flights the trip is wild and remote. In all, the
Little Whale stands out as one of my favorite rivers of all time.
