Overview -
Quebec's Moise River has a reputation among wilderness paddlers as one of the
most beautiful rivers in eastern North America. For over 250 miles the river flows
through challenging rapids and sheer walled canyons.  Boaters face many
portages and solid skills are required to safely navigate this large, deep, and
powerful waterway.  For fifteen days in 2002 our three person team explored the
Moise, starting on the Riviere Aux Pekans, and ending at tidewater in the town of
Sept Iles after paddling for a full day on the Gulf of Saint Lawrence. This
spectacular river, now protected for its aesthetic and ecological value, was
everything that we anticipated it would be.  While this page focuses on our
expedition, it also serves to provide as much information about the route as
possible.  Despite being paddled each year, the Moise is a river to be respected.
